Why grow it
Worth the garden space.
UF/IFAS describes Seminole pumpkin as adapted to Florida’s hot, humid climate. It is an excellent choice when you have the space for a large, energetic vine.
In the kitchen
Roast, puree for soup, bake into pies or bread, or use anywhere you would use a flavorful winter squash.
Clearwater growing notes
A good start matters.
Plan for a long vine
Vines can travel a considerable distance. Direct growth toward a fence, open edge, or sturdy support.
Plant into warmth
Choose a sunny position and avoid setting a small transplant into cold, saturated soil.
Let fruit mature
Harvest when the rind has hardened and the stem begins to dry, then handle gently for storage.
